For the first time ever, I was actually a little nervous about going on vacation this month. When the swine flu broke several weeks ago, I even called my travel agent to talk about cancelling. But then I decided to wait, the initial panic subsided. And I bought travel size hand sanitizer and I flew to Cancun. For better or worse, I completely forgot about the hand sanitizer once I got there!
Sure the airport now has health inspectors that take your temperature with the coolest thermometer I've ever seen (I need one for my kids, you just wave it by their faces!), and sure there weren't as many people as I remembered in the airport and sure we were the only ones checking in the hotel lobby that looked a lot like a ghost town. But the beach! We were pretty much all alone. And the crystal clear water needed a friend to hop in, so I was happy to oblige. The nachos had no one to eat them, so I was happy to help. The waiters at the restaurants (half of them closed) needed someone to serve, so I ordered away!
